The Great Outdoors - Hiking & Camping Thread

We try to camp as a family at least 3 times a year....all car camping since kids were added to the equation. I get out on a overnight canoe/camping trip at least once a year as well with college friends.

I just bought an Exped Megamat 10 Duo sleeping pad yesterday and I'm extremely excited about it. I've slept on them before and it's ridiculously comfortable, you can use them for company at home as well so it's not a completely stupid price point. Plus the old adage that you shouldn't cheap out on things between you and the ground (tires, matresses, shoes) is definitely in play as well.

I’m going to paddle ~34 miles of the Arkansas river this weekend and camp. The weather should be perfect but I’d appreciate some rain this week so I can relax a bit and don’t have to work so much. 😂
Did the thing. The water was LOW but the weather was perfect. Drank a bunch of beer. Slept on a sandbar. Being outdoors for a few days was needed.

I got out last Fall and did quite a bit of driving, adventuring, and hiking. I drove the entire Blue Ridge Parkway section here in NC ending with a trip up to Clingmans Dome in the Smokies. That included a stop to the top of Mount Mitchell. Also hit up a few of the local state parks, Grandfather, Elk Knob, and Stone Mountain that offer some excellent outdoor opportunities.

Haven't been out much so far this Spring. I need to rectify that.

I really liked all of your impressions a lot and wanted to contribute but

Went to Sequoia National Park / Kings Canyon for the 4th. Was nice to be away from any cell / internet service for a few days. And as I told my daughter on the 4th, although there are a lot of things to be concerned about w/ the state of the country right now, it was good to be reminded of the good things, like the National Park System.

Pictured is the little patch of a river in Kings Canyon that we had to ourselves for the 4th, plus a music related pic from the campsite. I'll take this and a starry night over fireworks any day of the week.
