Hello all!

I just got my hands on a Janis W1 subwoofer. Hooked it up to my receiver and no sound.

Turns out I am missing an interphase crossover that these things typically need.

My questions are:
1. Is no sound proof that I need an interphase crossover?
2. If yes, what should I look for when shopping for one?

I did a very small amount of poking around, and the interphase is described not only as a crossover, but also the amp. If you hooked it up to the subwoofer out, or other preamp output connections, all the sub will receive at most is the music signal, but no amplification to actually power the subwoofer.

I don't know what you spent on this sub, but it seems pretty obscure/rare at this point. These seem to have been made in the eighties. Rather than chase down the missing part and hope it all still works when you get it, you might want to look into a used, powered sub instead.
