NHL Thread Because There Isn't An NHL Thread

I know, this leadership group just can't seem to step-up. Do you really think Marner is gone if they don't get through this round? Like they let him walk? I imagine Tavares is in his last year either way too? Would be such a wasted "window".
I think he's gonna command stupid money for a lack of actual success. I can see a sign and trade scenario happening.

It is a wasted window. You look at the regular season leafs and you truly believe they could go all the way, but for whatever reason they only show up in small spurts during the playoffs. They only got by Ottawa through the grace of God.

I could see him go to Pittsburgh lol

Listen though:
Is it possible the Leafs could come back? Absolutely.

Has past history suggested that Leafs are cooked yet again? 100%

I know my avatar is the Leafs, but that honestly is more laziness of having to choose another one rather than actual fandom. I've detached from this team a couple of years back, as it's like staying with an abusive partner.

I've moved on the casually checking scores/watching highlights. I'm putting all my energy into Formula 1 with zero expectations. It's much more fun.

I always wondered if it really was the individuals the problem. I wouldn't be surprised to see Marner joining a different group and actually finding playoff success. I wonder if the issue is more that those 4 top players were just not the right "mix" of different top-end skills to find playoff success. You may end up getting better by moving on from some of them and using that money on other types of top-end talent.

Anyway, this series is not over yet.

Tin foil hat time:
I think regular season Leafs are fine, and the chemistry is there.

What I think the issue at least with Matthews is that guy has been battling a wrist injury for YEARS, and knows playoffs are much more intense and has been shying away for fear of damaging it further. I don't think he'll ever recover fully from it either, so unless he gets over whatever fear he has he'll never been effective long-term.

That means they would be completely screwed by parting way with Marner, since they'd be keeping the wrong guy?

In fact, I'd go so far has to say his wrist issue has been really bad all season. His scoring has dropped off a cliff.

If it's something that he can play with at say 60% effectiveness, or have to go on LTIR for a season to get a surgery and recover, I'd much rather it be the latter.

I think honestly they're screwed either way. It depends on how much they want to really negotiate with Marner, and moreover his father who is the absolute worst. It's a miracle his reputation survived the last round of negotiations.

Who ya rooting for?
I'm a Hamilton fan, but I realize it's not gonna happen for him with Ferrari, they can't get out of their own way.

I'm therefore all onboard the Piastri train this year, him winning over Norris (who I do not like) would be ideal.
Antonelli is making me a Merc fan slowly but surely though. He's been impressive.

Both Oscar and Kimi have surprised me this year. Nice to see a stronger field than only/just Max.

I had Oscar pegged above Lando before the season started and I've been happy with the results so far. I am glad the Red Bull domination era is finally over but I hate they're dragging down Yuki with them.

If only Russell was somewhat likeable I'd be all in with Merc. Something about him screams "Spoiled Eton boy".
