NHL Thread Because There Isn't An NHL Thread

I like Granuland put I can't help but feel this is an overpay.

Definitely, almost definitely not going to age well.

A lot of contracts being handed out today, especially for middling-to-not-very-good defencemen, are bonkers. Very glad the Leafs opted to protect Holl now. This seems a huge departure from last year's free agency even though the cap has not gone up and is not going up.

Well at least it wasn't an eight year contract.

Last year's free agency was very much impacted by COVID though.

The Montreal Canadiens signed defenseman David Savard to a four-year contract with an average annual value of $3.5 million, reports TSN's Pierre LeBrun.

The Quebec native recently helped the Tampa Bay Lightning defeat the Canadiens in the Stanley Cup Final. Tampa Bay acquired him at the trade deadline last season.

Savard previously played for the Columbus Blue Jackets. He's appeared in 611 games, scoring 41 goals and adding 125 assists.

The 31-year-old brings a solid defensive game to the Canadiens, who are reportedly going to be without captain Shea Weber next season, and perhaps beyond.

The Vancouver Canucks are bringing back Brandon Sutter on a one-year contract worth $1.125 million, reports TSN's Bob McKenzie.

Sutter had nine goals and three assists over 43 games with the Canucks in 2020-21.

The 32-year-old depth forward has played the last six seasons with Vancouver after three campaigns with the Pittsburgh Penguins. He spent his first four NHL seasons with the Carolina Hurricanes after they drafted him 11th overall in 2007.
