Toronto Maple Leafs netminder Jack Campbell will be out "weeks" with a leg injury suffered during the club's 3-2 win over the Calgary Flames on Sunday, head coach Sheldon Keefe confirmed, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.

Michael Hutchinson, who appeared in 15 games for the Maple Leafs last season, will assume backup duties behind Frederik Andersen.

Campbell appeared to tweak something in his leg during the final minutes of Sunday's contest, but he remained in the game to record his second victory of the season.


A few plays after the injury occurred, Flames forward Matthew Tkachuk accidentally fell on Campbell's leg while attempting to score the tying goal.

After receiving some postgame criticism, Tkachuk called it "classic" to accuse him of deliberately trying to injure the Leafs puck-stopper.

The Leafs and Flames meet Tuesday night for the second of nine matchups between the sides this season.

Pittsburgh Penguins general manager Jim Rutherford has resigned from his position citing personal reasons, the team announced Wednesday.

Assistant GM Patrik Allvin will take over responsibilities on an interim basis as the club searches for a new executive.

Funny-ish story: my brother-in-law, who's a huge Flyers fan, was watching a Habs game with me during the holidays, maybe around 2010. The Habs were pretty bad and he kept on making fun about how the Habs "just wish" they could have the "real" Weber. Ironic how that turned out.

Let's face it the Pens won't be making the playoffs this season and if by some miracle they do, they won't get passed the first round. I'm sad to say but I think l the Crosby/Malkin era is all but over in Pittsburgh.
