Audio difficulty

Hey guys. I just set up my stereo system and it was running great. I turned it on today and was getting static from the speakers while playing CDs, I switched to the record player and got no audio from the speakers, except for a little static that got louder as I increased the volume. Anyone have an experience like this? Not sure if anyone has any suggestions to get it working again
