All things Salt Lake City

Probably just gonna be me posting things to myself, but 🤷‍♂️
You are not alone, my friend! I mean, I’m not much of an upgrade over nothing, but I am here. Lifelong Utah resident, still try to make it to the occasional show (last one was Failure/Swervedriver at Urban Lounge a few weeks ago), usually hit Graywhale or Randy’s for records. Anyway, cool to know I’m not the only one here. Thanks for posting!

I was just there for a conference and stopped by Diabolical Records, talked with the owner forever. Super nice guy. Anyways, he was telling me about a record I hadn’t heard of, which sounded like something I wanted. I asked him if he had any in stock, he said he didn’t, but went to the back and sold me his store copy for a significant discount. Oh, and I love Red Iguana.

A visit to Diabolical and Red Iguana sounds like a really great way to spend some time.👍👍

My one year anniversary in UT is coming up next month, moved from CA. I haven't been to Diabolical yet, but I have been to the coffee shop next to it. I've been to three of the Graywhales, U of U, Sandy & Taylorsville. Sandy is closest to me, but I think Taylorsville is the best.

I've been to Red Iguana once, it is probably the best mexican I've had in UT, but doesn't compare to CA.

@typeslowly I know its short notice and a school night, but I've got an extra ticket to the Sego show at Kilby Court on Wednesday if you are interested. Edit- just followed you on Instagram, same username as here

I too am here! Although @DevonJD may not believe me as I have a knack for going out of town every single time he's had an extra ticket for a show, but I swear I'm around sometimes!

Funny, I’m from So Cal too, and I loved Red Iguana. But, maybe that!s because I’ve been in Great Falls for 12 years.

I escaped my time in Provo with my Orem-raised wife about 9 years ago, but I have so many great memories of concerts in SLC all through college. I'm with you all in spirit, but definitely enjoying my weather here in California.

When I'm visiting family in UT, are there any record stores I should make sure to see while there?

Gray whale has locations in Ogden, Sandy, Taylorsville. Diabolical and Randy’s records in slc proper. Lavender records or something is also in Ogden. And 3hive in Provo.

That’s all I know about. I’ve only been to sandy and taylorsville gray whales.

Any of yous guys going to the hives/refused tomorrow night?
I was wanting to go to this one but have been fighting a cold or something and couldn’t quite rise up and go. Have a great time - should be a pretty good one!

I didn't end up going. My wife isn't really into either bands, and it would have been close to $80 for two tickets. We went to see Brightburn instead.

Next show I'm going to is Geographer at the gateway this Thursday. Love Geographer, and can't pass up a free show.

Hey all, Geographer playing tonight at the Gateway for free. Doors at 6, Opener at 7, Geographer at 830. Bring a blanket and have a picnic. See you there

I won’t be able to make built to spill, but I’ve got these shows coming up

7/18 The Flaming Lips
8/1 young the giant/the aces/Sego
8/13 Mumford and sons/Portugal the man
8/17 Phantogram
8/21 Iron and wine/calexico
9/5 the national
9/27 Rufus du sol

Might try and make the 311 show in August too

Anyone going to Meatbodies/Psychedelic Porn Crumpets tomorrow, Torche on Tuesday or Boris on Saturday? Pretty solid week for shows(y)
