Neverending Covid-19 Coronavirus

I just read a long diatribe by someone on FB explaining how Governor Whitmer (MI - D) is very similar to Hitler and how the mask mandate is 'exactly' what happened during the holocaust. "Jews were told there was a virus, to put on masks and that they were being taken to a hospital. That hospital was Aushwits." (yes, I included the incorrect spelling too.)

I am having a hard time thinking that people truly believe this stuff, but it seems to be getting worse by the day. And now with Trump apparently taking control of ALL outgoing hospital data regarding the virus (which is ironic in this context of the FB-poster comparing leaders to Hitler) I'm getting a very bad feeling about how the next couple months are going to play out...both politically and public health-wise.
Is it all data from hospitals, or just what is sent to the CDC? Is my hope of state Departments of Health still providing decent data ill founded?

Ah, good question. Hopefully I inadvertently exaggerated. I don't want to make things worse by spreading bad info, I'm just in quite a state of frustration, sadness and worry right now.

I'm really hoping smarter heads prevail on a local level, but then you have the ass hats who just fall in line behind their leader, like in Florida. One thing I'm sure of, we are pretty much on our own, and things will get worse before they even inch towards better.

And in response to @ranbalam comment about..

This is the most troubling, concerning, and honestly, sad thing about his entire base. I'm never going to pretend that "Our Government" is 100% squeaky clean, telling us the "entire" truth about things, but this, this is beyond stupidity.

I honestly don't know the answer, just have a hope that we can rely on data from somewhere, even if some states, like Florida, have cast doubt on how impartial their data is as well.

I have no vested interest in this and I'm not an expert on any of it, but I find it really strange that almost none of the reporting or discussion I've seen on this mentions that chronic Lyme disease is not agreed upon to exist by a consensus in the medical community. She says she's taking 64 pills a day for it!

Also our governor said today we need to have full open school in the fall. Might delay start until Sept. 8 so preparations can be made. My kids aren't old enough to be in "real school" yet, but my wife is a teacher. 😬

That's really audacious with a daily increase of over 2000 cases in your state today, with an upward trend. The Ro seems way too high to make that call. I hope your wife will get the protection measures she needs to be as safe as possible.

Thanks.

And my county had over 400 of those. I'm hoping that reality drives a different approach by then. All he's done since we reopened too early is promise not to close anything again and tell people to wear masks but that he won't make it mandatory. Hopefully he stops the bravado and actually does anything.

Any plans to extend the expanded unemployment benefit is dead on arrival with the senate.

Instead, the senate is pushing a program called "Find Something New".

They have also voted to expand funding to the Ad Council to increase public awareness of the program.

The goal of Find Something New is to help people who are unemployed find a new career path. It provides job counselling and training in new fields to get you back to work.

But it fails to address the issue that many companies are not hiring and downsizing right now and that most of the jobs available are low wage or service industry positions in the job market.

So they can train you to be a computer support specialist with an average salary of $54,60 a year

But how many positions in companies are open and being filled? Also I guarantee anyone starting out will not make 54k. I looked into this type of job during the recession, and all the entry level positions were just barely above minimum wage.

That's not going to pay the bills. And when rent so high in so many parts of our country this is not good news.

Find Something New also lists "Contact Tracer" as a rising career. However, the average salary is $13 an hour

Many school districts are moving forward with their plans to reopen in just a few weeks. They don't have the funding or resources to be able to do remote learning.

Many school districts are also moving forward without a mask requirement for kids. If masks aren't mandated at the state level, schools aren't mandating them.

This have resulted in parents who are at high risk being scared. They just interviewed one such parent on the Today show who said she's updating her will.

My boss is saying that he is considering doing virtual learning using the state curriculum, which I guess is basically homeschooling. I didn't think about that being an option for people.

He and his wife both have jobs. His kids are old enough to stay home alone, but I bet it will still be difficult to fit everything in every day. I wonder how many other people will go that route.

Georgia's Governor has issued an executive order prohibiting mayors / municipalities from issuing their own mask order. On the state level Georgia has no mask mandate.

The Democratic mayor of Atlanta has defied the Governor's order and issued a mask mandate to save lives as Atlanta is a hotspot in the state.

Georgia's Governor told Atlanta's mayor "I'll see you in court". He's suing over the mask mandate stating his trying to protect businesses and employees (from the mask mandate).

Atlanta's mayor is saying the governors order prohibiting her from issuing a mask mandate is an overreach of power. The governor says his order supersedes the mayor's order which was issued unlawfully and is unenforceable.

I took my family to get tested on Wednesday afternoon. We were going on vacation with family next week; my parents are in their 70s, so we (brothers and sisters) decided the only way to do it responsibly was if everyone got tested before going.

We have been so safe for the past several months. I can count the number of people that we've seen on one hand, so I viewed the testing as a formality. Imagine the shock when my 6-year-old came back positive (the other three of us are negative). No vacation, and we are now on day 2 of our 14 day quarantine.

We are all healthy so far. She has zero symptoms: not a runny nose, no GI issues, same amount of energy as always, literally nothing. The asymptomatic positives are very very real, and the school year is going to be a nightmare. Wear masks, socially distance, be safe out there everyone.

I'm very sorry to hear that. Hope she continues to have no symptoms.

Any chance she was a false positive?
