Very much agree on ‘Tough Guys’. Huge sounding record.

    Vinyl Me Please Classics

I only stick with Classics pick I love and dip into the other tracks quite a bit. GZ made that more of a headache this year.

    Vinyl Me Please Classics

Interesting perspectives on the year for Classics overall. For me, this was a great year. No single record quite as spectacular as ‘Dreams’ but Lee Morgan, Bill Withers, Dorothy Ashby, Freddie King etc all stone cold classics that I’ll be listening to for years to come. Only skipped Frederick...

After a few drinks I forgot the Anthology is actually BG!

    Vinyl Me Please Classics

It’s certainly not cheap but AAA RKS RTI is a lethal combination. I think the Dexter Wansel album alone will be worth $300 😆

    Vinyl Me Please Classics

Just had my first listen to Teddy P, it’s pretty damn incredible. Can’t believe I initially considered passing on it. Cannot wait for the PIR Anthology, how good is Dexter Wansel going to sound???? Looking forward to more PIR Classics picks too, Ship Ahoy by the O’Jays would be nice…

    Vinyl Me Please Anthology

I’ve been buying records for decades but only joined VMP in summer 2020. I’ve bought around 50 records since joining and reckon they’ve been among the best purchases of my life. Gabor Szabo, Mr Hands, Ask the Ages, +Justments etc. Recently quality control issues have marred the experience and...

    Vinyl Me Please Anthology

Even recently I’ve always been lucky with QRP and RTI. Have had plenty of problems with GZ records for sure. Optimal has always had a good reputation but I haven’t been lucky of late.

    Vinyl Me Please Anthology

The last records I bought - ‘Endtroducing’ with one badly warped disc (GZ) and it took me three copies of Grant Green’s ‘Idle Moments’ to get an an acceptable copy. Even though the Blue Note Classics series are pressed at Optimal, it’s a total lottery whether you get a decent copy. Check out...

Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

Played Claudia Thompson in the background yesterday and on a couple of occasions different people asked ‘Who the hell is that???’. To my taste, this is vastly superior to Blossom Dearie or the Abbey Lincoln Classics pick but to each their own!

Agree 100% - just pushed the button on this.

    Uninvisible really is glorious.

Vinyl Me Please Rap & Hip Hop

Despite some headaches, I’ve enjoyed VMP membership immensely but VAT could well be a killer blow. Maybe they can set up VMP Europe. If not, the market will be wide open for a European competitor.

Grabbed this. First track sounds great. Unreleased Meters-y stuff is very much up my alley.

    Vinyl Me Please Classics

It feels like VMP Classics subscribers are somewhat averse to 70s disco strings. Which I can understand to be honest.

    Vinyl Me Please Classics

It’s arguably the best album by one of the great soul voices. What’s not to like!

    Vinyl Me Please Classics

Very curious to see how the Teddy P album is received when it finally lands. I could actually see it being my favourite Classics pick of the year.

Same here. I dig it out quite often.

    Vinyl Me Please Classics

Wasn’t sure about Teddy initially but after a few listens I think RKS is going to do something worth singing about with this release.
