    a. in the 'audiophile world', the release generates the demand. The mastering engineer, the exclusivity, the cover type, the numbering, all the artifacts. Not the other way around. I doubt that anyone was calling Chad begging for Pablo. b. Chad has tons of experience selling records. He is a...

I agree, my choice of phrase could have been better. I should have been clearer. As one who was around back in the day - the 70's, albeit very young but hungry for music, I can say - Pablo wasn't a thing. It was considered very old school, and hit cutout bins really fast. Now, decades later...

I love prog! I can't stand the current crop of supposed singer/songwriters endlessly pumping out generic, self-absorbed drivel in their whiny voices. Pablo was started by Norman Granz essentially to record artists that he managed. These artists, for the most part, were past their prime and...

Exactly. The Pablo catalog generates little to no enthusiasm among long term jazz fans. There are a few gems - Ellington/Blanton, Basie Barbeque - but as a whole, Pablo was recording artists late in their careers - past their primes - with their best work behind them. The Tatum/Webster is a...

I could care less. I can replace 6 MM 45's with a superior experience at 33, save increasingly precious shelf space, and better yet - sell those MM's and end up not only getting all for free, but coming out ahead! Great day!

That wouldn't work for me. You need to move. Priorities appear to be mixed up.

I had mine Wednesday. In person at a real record store! Fuck Jeff Bezos.

Record cleaning - what's your method?

All that dust on the needle means there is a ton of crap in the grooves, and your needle didn't get it all. Clean, then play again, and there will be a ton more on the needle. Then clean again. All those little pops aren't static - that would be consistent - so just keep cleaning, let the needle...

    Record Store Day 2024

The stereo tapes are trashed and not useable from my understanding, but hopefully the mono tape - much less use - isn't. still, there is a reason Craft issues this on RSD - no returns/exchanges possible.

    Definitive Audiophile pressings

AS is a distributor/manufacturer. Universal won't do returns of store bought items directly either. Warners will not accept such returns either, nor will Sony. Come to think of it, I can't think of any manufacturer who would accept consumer returns of store, dealer or distributor bought items...

Most of these are rehashes of the Classic plates. But folks - Sweet Rain is perhaps the greatest Stan Getz record. It hasn't been reissued domestically at all, and internationally not since a fine Japanese reissue from over a decade ago. Get it. Baker's Holiday is pretty fine as well. Roots...

    Definitive Audiophile pressings

To keep a reasonable side length most will have to be cut with one movement a side. The big question is - what are they going to do with the 3 recorded 16/44 digital? And - while these are glorious performances, the recorded sound was absolute shit. Bright, glaring, heavy on the spot mics...

    The Grammy Awards Thread

No wonder it is so obnoxious. Aside from Tracy Chapman, threre seems to be little music and fewer true musicians. But, seeing Tracy Chapman was awesome.

The word I take exception to in here is "music", which IMO has nothing to do with the Grammys.

    The Grammy Awards Thread

You are assuming the Grammys is about music - it is not! It is about pop performers at best, and really about sales combined with an attempt at some DEI range.

    Definitive Audiophile pressings

Not to mention the meticulous absence of any slight warp, off-centeredness, no fill (dates LOVE to learn about what no-fill is!) and seam splits/corner dings. Dates also love guys who are assertive, so always talk up how multiple copies are demanded to ensure the aforementioned. FYI, dates...

Another rule of thumb. USPS - if trackable, likelihood of being hit increases. If not, much more likely to escape the taxman.

    Definitive Audiophile pressings

You know how it works. If the sender places a value on the package, it will get hit with duties, taxes and maybe brokerage fees if sent by courier. No exceptions, automated. $20 threshold. If sent by USPS, it may or may not depending on whether the package gets nailed by Canada Post. Hit or...

Thanks for this. Interesting. Forcing me to revisit this album, which I haven't listened to in quite awhile, and have not considered great. The alternates/more stripped versions are already causing me to reconsider that.
