Do DMs allow pictures? What’s the issue with sharing codes publicly again? I’d personally rather put the code out there and throw away the paper, in the event no one wants to claim the code at that exact second.
Is there proof of that being a thing? I mean, if lurkers scoop up the codes then that's fine, that is the reason I put it out there in the first place. And I'm also assuming labels would be supportive of the codes they pay money for going to someone vs. just collecting dust because I say I have a code but no one ever DMs me for it. IDK.
I don't know if i agree with your logic on this one @Melt Face Molly Drop. Labels include the code with PAID product as a perk to be able to listen to it digitally as well. Not for whomever has the code. I'm with @mcherry, share the actual codes via DM's.
Yeah, but since these codes usually are only good for 1 download, it's not as if I am pirating the music by ripping it and then passing it on to the next person. It's not finite in the digital sense of piracy, but rather passing on something I paid for (that eventually expires) to another. I'm also not fully convinced that the cost to maintain digital downloads isn't passed onto the consumer in some way.
I think there's valuable discourse in here though, maybe worth pulling in someone with industry exposure to understand if there's opinion on the matter.
