It's really good, but no. It's completely different, enough to be a different type of sauce almost. Sweeter to the taste, more vinegary, less garlic and less spicy. I love it, love what Tabasco does, and use it but it's not a substitute.
since we are throwing hot takes out there i've never been impressed with any products Tabasco produces in general mediocre hot sauces. i will always reach for El Yucateco when i need hot sauces.
I have very limited access to hot sauces here. I mean, I have to import rooster Sriracha on my own. The only time I've been exposed to a variety of hot sauces was in New Orleans. I'm sure @nolalady can help us here.
@Vinyl&Kicks86 Tabasco is more akin to a hot pepper vinegar, which is something I love but doesn't exactly substitute for a more robust hot sauce. I like the zing it provides.
Recently I've just been using Grace red pepper sauce, which is an inexpensive bottle from Jamaica. It does the job.
Original Tabasco also remains a really honest sauce - just 3 ingredients peppers, vinegar, salt, all fermented in a barrel. It has its place for me, especially on eggs. I also like that the company remains independent.
Tabasco is for my Bloody Mary. Any other food gets hot sauce that works better with it; for example, Tapatio or Cholula on Mexican; Sriracha on Asian food, and so on. The strong vinegar content of Tabasco takes it off the plate for me unless there's nothing else.
