The National is the most cilantro soap band of all time

Are we using coriander tasting like soap to some people instead of marmite as a metaphor for divisiveness?

yeah it just feels like some people see The National as being kind of bland and don't really get the hype and then some other people absolutely love love, love, love them. They're the Cilantro/Coriander tasting like soap (bland) for a portion of people and the rest loving it.

Ah fair enough. I though they were slow starters who became really good around album 3 and then have been beyond boring for the last 2.

Why are people eating soap. Is this some hot new youthful trend I need to be a part of?

@Joe Mac on first listen I like it better than their last two but still nowhere near their good album(s). Just kinda more of the same brunchcore music to me

Think we might be buying tickets to see them, but only because Fleet Foxes are supporting. Will be happy to leave early

@Thackeraye I’ve seen the National live a few times and think they are probably a better live band than studio band. Fleet Foxes are also really fantastic live so see them if ya can!

@MikeH - we’ve seen the National before, and both my wife and I struggled with them. It wasn’t the greatest of venues, which might have had something to do with it. This new gig is going to be in a decent venue, so fingers crossed for an improvement!

Yeah, I think I am about done with new National music. I love Alligator and Boxer. I thought High Violet and Trouble Will Find Me really great in parts but lacking in others and Sleep Well Beast was almost as good as Alligator and Boxer but since then I I have found their last 3 albums pretty mid. Not bad, just kinda boring.
