Fun fact this is actually a lower score than the original 10 they gave it when it got reissued along with fish

It's interesting to see how Billy Corgan was always a controversial joke

Ha! Cherub Rock totally has the riff from the By-Tor & The Snow Dog breakdown. Cool.

Gish and Siamese Dream are incredible. Everything after is overblown and insufferably pompous

Funny thing is I actually like the Zwan album, but chalked that up to Sweeney and Pajo

Siamese Dream is great. Also the only Smashing Pumpkins album I like.

Adore actually might be my favorite pumpkins album.

Ok on first run through I definitely like it. Very much in the Alterna-Rock wheelhouse. I still find Billy's lyrics pretty trite but I can live with that. But a great album none the less.

The album does suffer from the usual 90s cd afflictions:
  1. Too long - I think they would have an absolute masterpiece if the record was 45 minutes.
  2. Shit sequencing - too many 90s cds are front loaded with all the great songs. By the time you hit the 2nd half it starts to drag a bit. (see #1)

What makes this album so damn good is that guitar tone Billy and James have. It’s not quite Shoegaze and not quite metal, just riffs and fuzz. See “Mayonaise”. There’s really nothing else like it and nothing they’ve done has come close.

I dig the album, as well as a lot of their singles and “Adore”. But any live performances I’ve seen televised from the band have always sounded pretty bad. Maybe they sound better in an actual live setting, but I’ve never wanted to pay money to test that out.
