I'm pretty sure Francis from Francis and the Lights was one of the first to use that Prismizer effect, then taught it to Bon Iver, who then taught it to Kanye haha. Then everybody decided they wanted to use it.
@Melt Face Molly Drop You and I should start a podcast where we just channel our inner Daria and hate on shit. Another thing I said last night during Bon Iver's set is that part of why I missed his initial hype train is because he came up right as I had hit eject on folk because bands like Mumford and Sons / Lumineers had popified the scene.
@MikeH he's still awesome live. My 2nd fav set of the weekend. I get why some aren't into it. He's gotten weirder than Kanye ever was, and the glitched out stylings have bled over into his older stuff. He's been experimental longer than he was ever folk at this point tho. I love it. Very emotionally affecting.
@DownIsTheNewUp i get why people don't like that sound but i think it's really impressive, especially to achieve that sound live. from what i understand, his mic is hooked up to a midi controller and he's singing but also playing the accompanying harmonies at the same on the midi keyboard. i don't think it's just some auto-tune.
