I actually wish they had a paid level for non-sellers. Then you could actually demand that they fix things that should have been fixed 20 bloody years ago.
Unpopular opinion. Bandcamp only got better after being acquired by Epic. If Discogs could get bought out by the right buyer they could transform the platform into the egalitarian database that it has always striven to be. Keep the database open, but enact reasonable fees on sales is a good solution. I wouldnt even mind ads, albeit with a light touch.
@THEEDADROCK.BLOG I can think of a lot more businesses that were ruined after being acquired by a large corporation or hedge fund than I can think of that were made better as a result. Discogs leaves a lot to be desired in its current state but nothing they’ve done recently makes me think that their end game is a better product.
They will just continue to make things crummier in the name of cost cutting and then charge the consumer more for it. If it doesn’t work out… oh well, on to the next business to plunder in the name of capitalism.
