How did your attempt at jazz go?

Man, I used to talk so much shit about Steely Dan. How boring they were, etc. I think I just hit an age where it started to sound more pleasant. This was probably around the time I started preferring seated venues. Hearing ‘Dirty Work’ in “American Hustle” probably helped turn the tide for me.

My unguided foray into jazz went about the same as it always does. I like some pretty common/mainstream stuff, then meh.

I’ve become enough of a fan to at least put together a playlist of favorites. I have to be in the right mood for it, but when I am, this one does the trick.

It took me years to get over what I thought was the antiseptic sound of SD. And then one day I got stoned, focused on the baselines and the lyrics to Black Cow and it clicks.

@Aron - yeah, I just have this GH album on vinyl and called it a day.

It still amazes me that it was only year later that my friends in my 80s hardcore band realized I took our name, Kid Charlemagne, from an SD song

So I came around to SD via Hip Hop samples...




Also, Lyrically they are funny as hell. Check out "Deacon Blues" and "Hey Ninteeen".
