FLAC/ALAC won't sound worse with crummy headphones, just harder to notice the difference. I got some Sennheiser px-100-ii for <$50 that I really like.

KOSS PortaPros. A little fragile and pretty mcuh no sound isolation but sound unreasonably good for the price point, there's a reason they've been made since the 80s with pretty much no changes.

Not like, MASSIVELY into them, they don't get any play at all really, but I appreciate what it is, there's a couple I really like, and the money goes to charity, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. My brother has spent exponentially more time with them though, I think Athletic Theme from Super Mario World was his ringtone at some point.

no its fine...

i just feel embarassed having everyone hear my music... so open back is not an option.. even if technically a grado or a koss portapro would be useful.. i just prefer people ignoring my music

I find high bitrate AAC to be plenty fine for my phone, for things like driving/running/music at my desk at work.

Sony MDR V6 or 7506 have a good rep, but definitely a bulky cord option for wearing around town. Haven't heard em myself though.
