Needles & Grooves

I mean... you WOULD have a slightly used pillar of fire just sitting right there. It wouldn't take much to just, you know, nudge that person into it... problem solved AND a handy second sacrifice, the vinyl gods will be THRILLED! They love that sort of thing.

In your visit scenario, I would hold until a few visits have passed. If no request, feel free to sell/pif/ceremonially burn.

I’d likely keep because I suffer from acute embarrassment and guilt with stuff like that but then I also wish I was able to sell/exchange and brazen it out…

I usually keep gifts. Not gonna kill me to keep on my shelves. Plus, adds a nice little autobiographical depth to the collection 10-20 years down the road.

I got one as a gift I already had so I PIFed my copy to a lovely person here, but generally I keep gifts even if it's not my jam: usually if I need the space something else can go ya know. And maybe it'll be come my jam.

Like Joe, I hate the idea of suffering from that acute embarrassment as well as the guilt if said friend was to come over and request a spin.

I had a strict 'keep all gifts' policy for years and realized no one ever asked to play them or came over and flipped through my records to see if they were there. Back in December I started selling a lot of records that were gifts to me and I'm never looking back!haha

I'm that guy then... sell that shit. My dad loves to give me Christian pop records. I don't even open them.

I mean what happens when the friend comes over, asks for a spin, you put it on the platter and after 35 seconds scream “what the fuck is wrong with you, how can you like this garbage” throw the record off the platter, it smashes against the wall and debris from the wreckage lodges in his throat… best to just be rid of it.

You can always pretend you can’t find it when he does ask

Is there some rush to get rid of them? I hold onto gifts that don't suit me for a few years--long enough to be seen once or twice or represented honestly if I'm asked about them. After that, well everything moves on at some point 🤷🏼‍♀️

oh man, I love these responses! I'm a catholic, so guilt lives with me constantly, for whatever reason. Being caught without the records in case the giver asks... would be hard to bear. On the other hand I live the idea of a visit threshold.... once the visit happens (and regardless of the records being mentioned) the unwanted gifts can get burned/sold/PIFfed....

I'm just surprised nobody asked for the unwanted records titles.....

@panino sorry I'm late...

But seriously, I'm surprised that nobody's even asked what they are

I mean I want to know what they are but it isn’t as powerful as the need to say don’t keep records you aren’t gonna spin!

@panino I don’t think that it’s a coincidence that all three people who used the word guilt are, or were raised, Catholic 😂

ok, I'll do the big reveal, and hopefully won't offend anybody that is a fan (and these records will appear maybe in 6 months in the Euro/International PIF thread)
