We've got a couple of these and they work well. Call it a personal item.

I usually just put them in a cloth tote bag then set them vertically by my feet (works better if by a window seat). They’ve never said anything to me but if they do it’s not hard to safely place them under the seat in front of you then remove them after takeoff.

I’ve carried them on in a tote that is fitting without a lot of room for movement and put them under the seat in front of me.

@girlnevergoesout Don't you just buy an extra seat?

Just ask the steward to have the pilot stow them when they come by with the champagne and snacks or while you’re in the limo to the tarmac at your private airfield.
