Going to quote myself, where I brought up the thing about him that maybe disquiets me most and most uniquely:
“The thing I've realized about Elon is that he wants a sci-fi future. He doesn't care if it's good, bad, who it works for, simple, complicated, how it works. He just wants it, and he's put himself in a position to try and make it happen, whatever the outcome.”
Interesting. Out of everything that's been said or not said so far in this thread, the thing that basically confirms to me that he's not a good person is the fact he's thrice divorced. I admit I have a "pro-space stuff" bias, though.
"Space stuff" should be solely public sector and not the dick measuring contest for the richest among us to leave the rest of us on the husk of the planet they accelerated the death of.
Although maybe thats the answer? Let all the billionaires suffocate in their metal sarcophagi high above the atmosphere and then we can rebuild the planet on a more egalitarian basis? Yeah I know, flying pigs an all that...
I basically agree with everything that has been said here, but also, the fact that like most billionaires they claim to be self made from nothing. That is false.
He's a perfect example of the idea that being a fairly smart guy with tons of money makes you a "genius." As with most other "geniuses," I don't buy it.
Yeah the way people look up to him is gross, and makes me dislike him more. He’s just a billionaire piece of shit who comes across so disingenuous. The cars may be cool? But the self-importance, not giving a shit about his employees, and high level or pretentiousness is enough for me not to care about the cars at all. Also the space stuff…just highlights how little he cares about helping this planet
Are they all that environmentally friendly. Have a research of all of Musks environmental promises and how many of them have come to fruitition. He’s a time share salesman elevated by over expensive loss making cars and hubris.
Battery resource mining isn't perfect and lithium mining in particular uses a massive amount of water. But in comparison to like fracking it's much better for the environment. Right now EVs as a whole are not that much better for the environment mostly because the electrical grid is still so fossil fuel based. Any serious proliferation of EVs will have to come concurrently with an increase in renewable power.
