Sepia tones speak of nostalgia to me, the rose colored glasses of looking backward. I don't get that from his lyrics at all.

When I think of sepia toned I think of high school when we were just discovering filters to put on your digital photos. Sepia and a handful of others always reflected an artistic sadness that could only be explained by looking at it deeply.

@JonnyH I've never heard that theory. "Rosy" has been used to mean cheerful or optimistic since the 1700s.
