I love the Grammys. Half the awards are BS like any award show, but it's honestly mostly performances with a few award scattered in between. And sometimes they get it right.
In terms of sheer quantity released, there is way more material than TV and Movies and requires a lot more self-discovery to find everything so I don't necessarily agree on that. There's always going to be a plethora of amazing music that doesnt make it on the Grammys radar. It's a mainstream music music award show, is what it is. No way to please everyone but sometimes they really get it right.
Mainstream and Popular are not the same thing. Marvel movies are both critically acclaimed and make more money than anything else in Movie industry, I don't see them all over the place at the Oscars or Globes. And assuming you're talking about Hip-Hop which has a pretty significant presence in terms of noms and performances...even if they don't win as much as they should
@wokeupnew I'm sure you'll find diehard movie, tv, and stage fans that hard disagree with you there. And in terms of sheer quantity of movies/tv vs Music released in a year, it's not even close.
You can make a classic album in a week from your bedroom. Can't do the same with a movie, TV show or theater production. I don't think they warrant being compared in the same light. The DIY/independent music scene is always increasingly closer to getting their props, but this event is and always will be about power and who's got the deepest pockets.
And what does amount produced in a year have anything to do with it if you're already arguing its a mainstream contest? There is only so much in the mainstream and just by doing that you aren't judging on artistic merit like the Oscar's at least try to attempt.
Yes its correct that they use hip hop as a way to get people to watch the program without ever rewarding the genre.
Def the ol’ bait and switch too. They rewarded black artists for the historically black categories, then give the top 2 awards to Eilish and Swift. Billie damn near pulled a Macklemore when she gushed over how Megan should’ve won it. It wasn’t as cringey as Macklemore’s whole deal but if the artist doesn’t feel worthy, there’s usually a reason.
