one of my friends sent me a selfie of her wearing a nirvana shirt. i've played nirvana songs in the car with her and she HATES their music. literally has said "turn that shit off". so i guess she bought the shirt for the ~90s aesthetic~ or whatever (and from urban outfitters which somehow makes me cringe even harder).
I’ve def seen the wearing artists you don’t listen to as a fashion choice - I think there was recently a debate on this here. I see it w Nirvana a lot (Joy Division too). Like the Che shirt for bands.
W that said, I have no problem w it. Unless it was someone who really did tell me to shut something off. But just as a fashion I don’t care. These things enter the realm of symbol & iconography. If we nitpick there are so many things we hold up in our own lives that we’ve lost the origins and meaning of
She and I have gotten into it before. She kept telling me that my legitimate diagnosed mental health problems could be solved by going to church (??????). We stopped speaking for a long time until the Oregon district mass shooting happened and she was worried I was there that night. Now she's more of a fringe friend.
