It’s amazing that they did a MOFI of Aja just a few years after it was originally released.

Also, I told you @Mather had a murder dungeon!!

Pretty sure that copy of Aja belongs to Night Mather. Night Mather loves Steely Dan.

After 10 drinks I could definitely see Night Mather getting into Steely Dan...

I think Night Mather is the Canadian version of Peter Sichel

30 seconds into that groovy guitar lick and bassline on black cow and your instinct was to turn it off? your ears are broke, chief.

I was going to post this in the Radiohead thread in response to the Kid Charlemagne reference, but instead I’ll leave it here... Steely Dan > Radiohead.

In all seriousness, my first encounter with Aja (when I was in my early 20s) was eerily similar. I did not make it much further than you into “Black Cow.” Fast forward 15 years or so and it’s now one of my top 25 favorite albums of all time. It’s a perfect album.

I’m so torn. I agree with @Mather but I also really like @bfly threatening him.

Don't let anyone bully you into liking the music from my mom's smooth jazz collection

@bettim84 it is a perfect album! How some people malign the Dan, I'll never understand.

Also both Radiohead and Steely Dan were in my spotify top 5 last year, so I'm pressed to say one is greater than the other. They're not very comparable at all lol

Is it, though? I like Radiohead but my I rank at least 2 Dan albums (Aja and Countdown) ahead of my favorite Radiohead album (The Bends).

Tbh I don’t think the two are comparable. Different eras, plus one became a studio project while the other is a perennial festival headliner. Aja and OKC are both era-defining masterpieces, but that’s about it. Other than the misanthropic undercurrent in both bands’ lyrics.
