If you've ever wondered about the origin of the wine-talk sample in the Beastie Boys' "Blue Nun" (Check Your Head), look no further. It's from an audio guide to wine titled On Wine: How to Select and Serve by wine merchant Peter M.F. Sichel, who was responsible for popularizing the Blue Nun wine...
I was going to post this in the Radiohead thread in response to the Kid Charlemagne reference, but instead I’ll leave it here... Steely Dan > Radiohead.
In all seriousness, my first encounter with Aja (when I was in my early 20s) was eerily similar. I did not make it much further than you into “Black Cow.” Fast forward 15 years or so and it’s now one of my top 25 favorite albums of all time. It’s a perfect album.
@bettim84 it is a perfect album! How some people malign the Dan, I'll never understand.
Also both Radiohead and Steely Dan were in my spotify top 5 last year, so I'm pressed to say one is greater than the other. They're not very comparable at all lol
Is it, though? I like Radiohead but my I rank at least 2 Dan albums (Aja and Countdown) ahead of my favorite Radiohead album (The Bends).
Tbh I don’t think the two are comparable. Different eras, plus one became a studio project while the other is a perennial festival headliner. Aja and OKC are both era-defining masterpieces, but that’s about it. Other than the misanthropic undercurrent in both bands’ lyrics.
Also, I told you @Mather had a murder dungeon!!
