@TenderLovingKiller® the interesting about the beach boys is i only really like their proggier pop orchestral stuff so the albums i will be buying from this set besides this are sunflower, smiley smile, and surfs up (haven't tried summer days and summer nights but i might also get that who knows)
I second @Murfocakes rec of Today and Love You. Will not second Carl & The Passions though. Friends, 20/20, Wild Honey are all really good too (Wild Honey prob most in tune w/ taste you're looking for). All 3 you mentioned are great - Smiley Smile & Surf's Up more so than Sunflower
Carl and the Passions has All This Is That (One of their most gorgeous tracks ever), two Scott Walkeresque Dennis beauties (Cuddle Up and Make It Good) which outweigh the unevenness. The rest is likeable rock. Holland is similar with massive high points like Trader, Sail On Sailor and Only With You towering over the rest.
@Murfocakes yep on Holland....another stinker. I agree with what you're saying about them....there are some serious gems on each. But, IMO, it's such a mixed bag that I wouldn't want to drop a needle and sit through the stinkers. Those are digital listens for me
Well....I wanted to listen to all those songs @Murfocakes (esp. Sail on Sailor - it is a fantastic song), but now I've landed on watching "Beach Boys Campfire Acoustic Session - Endless Summer" on YT while I work
I met Brian once, before a performance of Smile. He had that burnout aura around him. Poor guy. Still love his stuff. First Brian solo album and Smile I also advise and especially Pacific Ocean Blue by Dennis
@Lord Diaper Baby I saw the Mike Love incarnation a while ago too. He seems to spend the whole night just pointing at people and we got told off for pointing back at Mike all night.
+1 on the BW Smile and, of course, Pacific Ocean Blue is a wonderful record. It's funny, I just moved onto listen to BW '88 right now. Classic sound you'd expect from him, if not a little heavy on the synth sound of the times here and there
@Lord Diaper Baby sadly I think it's very hard to get either version of smile (I'm a casual fan only caring for the post pet sounds work and mostly the more popular albums there)
Yea I bought Smile Sessions on 2CD. The vinyl was available but I purposely chose the CD. BW I only have on CD. Are mono/stereo versions of AP Smiley still around? Thats what I have but got them a couple years ago
