Does the pay bump require you to interact with people in an office? Can it not also be remote?

Right now in a pandemic? Home! No contest. Also how significant is this extra 10% when the costs of commuting to the office are subtracted from it?

Is the physical location public facing? What safety procedures are in place? Do you have kids and are they at home? Is it a temporary increase?

Too many variables to vaguely say which I’d do.

Fuck, I forgot the most important one: are you happier now working remotely?

This is not my current situation... It’s more of a lifestyle question... what would YOU do if presented with the opportunity.

and it’s all people facing and all are vaccinated. Just a what if situation, is all I’m curious about

I would factor in time spent during commute and cost for commute (gas, car maintenance, tolls, etc.) and also factor in how much I enjoy (or dislike) the physical interactions and relationships I have with my coworkers. Also you may need to factor in growth opportunity, are physical employees more likely to promote?

I would personally take WFH than to work in office... I like the flexibility of it. Would take minimum a 20-25% increase in pay to go back to office. That’s basically my threshold

Work in an office, no question. I’ll caveat that by saying that I live on my own have been going slowly crazy this year. That said I absolutely do not miss throwing away money and, more importantly, time commuting!

I’d take the 10% increase because my current job doesn’t warrant working from home.

My company is sort of doing the reverse. 10% penalty if you want to work from home, 100% of your current pay for in-office. I don’t care how you slice it here, the amount you save on expenses is nowhere near 10% of salary - and that’s 10% of base, which impacts stuff like bonuses, 401k match, etc. So yeah, nah. 10% is too steep.

There’s also often lots of hidden costs with physical work that are not considered. The random coffee runs and lunch dates, takeout on the way home, etc.... that stuff all adds up and I wouldn’t be surprised to see JUST those “gotchas” average out to about $15 per day.

“Browsing” in one of the four record stores between the office and the tram stop was the biggest one of those for me @Tys1

@Corycm wuuuut. That makes no sense, I guess they really want to discourage people from doing it.
My role is now WFH, with no added benefit to be in office. Hope they split the savings with employees instead of filling investors pockets, but you know, capitalism and stuff

It’s a nice incentive. Depending on your industry, a 10% raise probably isn’t gonna be in the cards for a single year raise for awhile. You might spend a bit more, but (I suppose it depends on your base salary and commute) I’d be hard pressed to increase my spending 10%. Maybe 5%. But if you prefer working at home though, I’d stick to it if the office has no real benefit.

@Corycm They're penalizing workers 10% of the salary agreed upon for the work and value people provide for them, in exchange for them saving on office costs? That is some bullshit.

I have to go to the worksite no matter what 😞

Home. I go in M-F for about 4 hours and work the rest of the day from home. Not having to leave the house has its benefits, especially during a pandemic.

Home, but I have to counter with a tip of the hat to my employer. Not only did they supply us with everything we need to do our job and continue to improve the WFH situation, but they also give us a monthly stipend for using our own internet. Of course as mentioned, being home during a pandemic is also less stressful and safe.........for everyone.
