I dunno if it’s sad @Skalap he’s a rich old man whose chosen to liquidate a considerable asset. It was his choice. I feel much worse for artists who were never able to gain control of their publishing rights in the first place...
Are you actually saying BOB DYLAN sold out? The guy that pretty much invented defying fan and label expectations? The guy is old, has led an amazing and creative life. He was managing his own music- when he is gone it's going to someone else anyway, he might as well cash out. He didn't gaf about the Nobel, either
Seems to be a trend with Stevie Nicks doing the same thing. Would have preferred he took the route of Bowie and Prince and kinda managed how their estate should play things out buuut I get it since that's like a separate business within itself.
Figure he asked his kids “do you want $100 million each and never have to work again in your life or would you rather administer my estate after I am gone?”
Another reason Bowie was a genius (and lucky). Sold the rights to his music in 1997, which allowed him to buy back the rights to early hits. He then was able to buy the rights back in 2007 that he sold in 1997 for pennies on the dollar.
Bob: I got these singy poems I like to call songs, what should I do with 'em, kids?
Bob's Kids: Let us manage them! We'll put them on TikTok to ensure they're influential for generations to come.
Bob: That settles it then, selling to Universal.
Kids: I guess the times they are a-changin'
