KOL 1-3 are really good, with diminishing returns. They definitely sold out with Sex On Fire, and I feel that hard turn into the mainstream tarnished the legacy of their earlier accomplishments.
They had a bit of an Imagine Dragons effect there for a bit. Just a very generic rock band that seemed to pop up everywhere you turned (commercials, televised performances, radio, etc). Seems they've been out of the limelight for a few years now which is always good for a reset. I agree though that their first 3 albums are solid, but nothing I'm gonna revisit to try and peel back additional layers.
I was at a wedding where Use Somebody was the first dance. Didn't feel appropriate.
KoL just got a bit boring when they decided to become a stadium band. They were never hugely exciting before that, but they just turned into U2-lite beige-ness...
They’re one of those bands that completely existed in a blind spot for me. Like completely unfamiliar. I took a flyer when their box came up for like $15 in the old Deal Thread. It was super weird to see all these people with really strong feelings when I had no clue who they even were.
Yeah they started off making fun, more interesting sounding music than what they make now. It just sounds so bland now. But those first 3 albums are some great 2000s rock
