One of my locals puts the price tags RIGHT ON THE JACKET if there's no shrink. And these guys have been selling new vinyl for like 30 years. They know better, they just don't care. It's nuts.
Some of those price stickers use low adhesive and come off pretty easily with no gunk left behind. But once I bought a Buckingham Nicks at a used shop and they used LIGHTER FLUID to strip the gunk off left from their stickers. And apparently this is a normal thing? @Melt Face Molly Drop this was a sticker that held on with some sort of adhesive that is not of this world. I used rubbing alcohol to try to get the gunk off after, but maybe I should try lighter fluid and see if that works better. It was one of those rectangular strips of plastic with a metal strip inside of it, and then they put a piece of tape OVER THAT.
You can use goo gone for adhesive residue as long as it’s sealed/gloss laminated/UV coated surface (it’ll stain paper). I will do the on newer albums, not older ones where the surface is worn. Put a bit on a clean cloth or qtip and use a very light touch. Then I usually wipe the surface down with distilled water and dry it.
When I worked at 2nd & Charles, corporate would send us records like this every week, security sticker already slapped on the bare jacket. There was nothing we could do and our customers always thought we were dumb lmao
