Does your car have damage? I'd a) chalk it up to a prank or b) take it seriously and wait and see if the police contact you; if they do, tell them that it didn't happen and that you hadn't driven your car and the person is mistaken; I'd imagine the burden would be on that person to prove.

Is there contact information on the note? Sounds like maybe a scam if so? (call the number, the dude says "hey let's just handle this outside of insurance so you don't get a hit on your coverage rate, etc" then you venmo him $300 to "fix" his bumper fascia.) Maybe.

Yeah I contacted the number but haven’t heard back. The more I thought about it, the more I assumed it might be a scam? But I don’t know. I had scratches on my car from an accident last year where I was hit. So that’s the only “evidence” I believe this person thinks they have. But I can prove through an insurance claim that those have been there.

It's either a scam or you're living a double life you're unaware of. Check the liquor cabinet.

Oh, yes...option c. A scam. It's probably option c. That's my naivety for not thinking the worst of people.

Scam. Even if you had driven, how could they possibly know where you lived unless they followed you home. And in that case they would have been there when you got out of the car. If you haven't driven, or if they show up out of the blue claiming you hit them, it's a scam. As far as I know you can't find people's addresses via their license plates and the cops aren't gunna give out that info.

@Mather i live in an apartment building and we have like a parking garage thing so either...they also live here or they are one of the many many many people who park here for the restaurants at the bottom of the building. Anyway, I’m about to head back home for my lunch break...curious to see if anyone shows up to confront me or something

I see, same situation though really. How would they have identified your car out of the hundreds of cars down there? And who immediately "notifies the police" for a scrape in a parking garage? Especially without at the very least contacting you first?

Scam.

@Mather yeah it just doesn’t add up really to me
