@Rip_City let me be a lesson to you all. My first 3 years was a hellacious hoovering of consumption. The next 3 years I spent paring down, selling, etc. All-in-all I’ve probably unloaded 400 records. About 1/3rd of my collection is used had for <$5 or gifted to me. So I’m still trimmin’ but damnit if I’m also not still accumulatin’

I have exactly one "vintage" record in my collection. A 66 Liberty Mono of "Moanin'". After that I have a 1997 Roni Size 4 LP 45 of "New Forms". Aside from those everything else is pressed after 2003 and is either new or purchased NM off of cogs.

God dang I love New Forms. Haven’t listened to that in forever. Wish I had on vinyl! I’ll have to dig out my CD...

Dude I love that album I was SO lucky to grab a clean OG 4LP off of cogs. The jackets are worn but the vinyl is almost NM. It sounds great.

There's a few on there but unfortunately most of them are missing discs because they were so heavily used by DJs... Keep an eye on on Cogs from the UK.

Check that listing, only 4 discs. Seem to be in better shape. Same one I have. Also that 5 disc is only half the songs on the album as is the 4 disc, the 5 disc is the second half of the double CD, the 4 is the first. Technically to get the whole double CD you'd need the 4 LP AND the 5 LP. I just went for the 4 since it has the best tracks.

@Mather the fact that a VG+ vintage and a VG+ new aren’t graded the same on discogs and sound vastly different would probably drive you crazy

That is one of the reasons I do not have any "vintage" records. I realize that a lot of the early pressings are better than current ones BUT pops and noise drive me crazy and I'll take a slight hit on sound quality to completely eliminate those by getting audiophile newer pressings. Also I don't have the budget to buy NM vintage stuff...

Don’t you have that kinks box? That has 10 albums in it on its own, 10 wonderful albums...

Yes, I'm including that as "one" but I'm also including it in the great pressings because it's fantastic. I don't get how Rainbo was able to do such good pressings, and such absolute garbage.... It's such a range. Maybe depended on who was working the press that day... who knows...

And I'm including this RTJ 2 I just got and it's great! I'm shocked. Like really good.

I can only say good things about both EU Kamasi releases that I have. No issues - although I still haven't opened up disc 5 on Kamasi yet.

It makes sense but I’m surprised you don’t have more used/older stuff. That’s half the fun of vinyl collecting for me—the hunt and digging in weird shops to find an OG copy of some album I love.

There's no digging in Toronto man, like... all the stores here know what they have and price accordingly. I don't get any fun out of it. Instead I just pinpoint what I want, research the best pressing that exists and that's available, and buy it.

Yea--I went to Toronto two years ago and there weren't a ton of good used options in stores. I think I also enjoy digging because that's how I got started here. I was a broke college kid and bought tons of great stuff at $2 a piece at flea markets and the like. I can still find stuff like that occasionally but now I can afford to upgrade certain albums I listen to more.

The days of finding dollar grailz are definitely over but given the volatility of the market, bigger stores just don't have time to re-price records every month that might have shot up in value. So, I think there's something still rewarding in the hunt if you've got time to put the work in.

I also check Craiglist and there's usually people looking to unload in bulk. I've had 2 separate hauls of 50 and 100 records that I paid probably $100 total for and when it all was said and done, probably had $500 worth of records in valuation. And the fun part (to me), was researching and cleaning all of them, then selling the ones I didn't want.
