How do you pack to avoid seam splits for a sealed record? Does music direct or the mofi store not offer the option to unseal and pack outside upon request?
I don’t know why they don’t shrink wrap them instead, I’m sure they say it’s to prevent warping or something else but I get just as many warped from them as others.
I would try to find a retailer that will remove the discs from the jacket for you. That's the only way to ensure no seam splits.
I want to say that Music Direct refused the last time I asked them, but that was years ago. Soundstage used to have an option on checkout you could check. I would ask Elusive Disc or Acoustic Sounds if they do it. I haven't ordered from one of them in forever so I'm not sure.
It’s more of a personal problem I guess I don’t understand how a company like that can make so many mistakes and be successful solvable problems and preventable mistakes shouldn’t be the consumers fault.
@dhodo i appreciate the suggestion, it’s just really frustrating to have this problem when spending this kind of money. My ultra disc one step Dylan was a shot show as well.
I’m sure they will they did with the Dylan, although I just ended up using the vinyl flat because the replacement disc was warped as well. I appreciate they will make it right in a general sense.
My favorite is when I try to explain to an eBay seller of a perfect condition 40 yo record, to pack outside of the custom inner to prevent slits, they respond by saying, "no thanks, I'm a pro, I know what I'm doing." Then, I get it and all three sides of the custom inner are shredded!
Oh my goodness, I may not work in the record business but I do deal with customer service and retail and I’d feel like a dope to make the same costly mistake over and over.
Or, in the same vein, buying used online and having the seller contradict the defined objective grade that they gave a record in an attempt to justify said grade they applied to it.
Then the poor people who graded correctly and accurately have to justify doing it properly with terms like “graded conservatively” which really just means they did it correctly and most don’t.
