Have you tried other sources with the BJ cables to see if you still get them hum/buzz?

The Hum monster cometh .

I have had a back and forth battle with hum/static noise in one speaker that comes and goes every couple of months . Been like this for years and years and I have tried everything. Just starts , irritates me for a time and then disappears back to wherever it came from ---maybe down the interconnect rabbit hole to have a cup of tea with the white rabbit .

It all keeps us busy and commenting on the thread .

It's really interesting because I would have expected to have issues with this in my current house especially considering I have 6 speakers running in my livingroom and directly below that I have 10 running with 4 in the ceiling directly below my upstairs system. That's a tonne of wiring and yet I have never had any hum or hiss issues. Luck of the draw I guess because it's not like I really did anything to avoid it.

I think my left phono connector on my old CJ PV10 may have a solder break causing the issue . The last time I changed tubes , did not see anything and taking it all apart to have it checked out is a big pain as it just keeps coming and going in a random pattern so I just tighten connections , curse at it and usually back to normal until it happens again ---like in the movie groundhog day .

Just set up my replacement UD. Interesting to see a number of revisions on the parts.
Different finish on tonearm and counter weight, different tint on the lid, different color light on the button, different cue arm, markings for tonearm weight, new angle and weight on the antiskate, better feet on the dust cover. Lots of little touches.

Accept for the silver colored ring at the base of the tone arm your UD one looks like my UD that I purchased at the beginning of 2024.

One source of noise is poor grounding in the house wiring. If the ground potential is too high in one outlet relative to another, that can induce ground loops that create noise. If you have very little noise in your environment, I'd likely attribute it to superior grounding techniques during construction. Good grounding shunts EMI/RFI to the ground before it gets to other components. RFI is less of a factor than it used to be due to the demise of radio stations, but LED lights still can be a particular problem.

Yeah well I know there are literally metal grounding stakes inside sealed PVC tubes buried in my yard that the previous owner installed. My dog dug one up. So perhaps that helps.

Michael Fremer did an article and a video about the upgrades that he did to his grounding. With old houses, there can be lots of mods over the years, as well as aging and newer codes mixing with older ones, that can contribute to poor grounding.
