April 2025 Spin Challenge – Well, this is puzzling…

Day 30 - April showers bring May flowers - spin an artist / album / song that mentions any type of precipitation or has rain / clouds / or expression of weather on the album cover.

Caribou "Suddenly" (2020 merge)
One of the tracks is named "Cloud Song" and another "Sunny's Time", and the cover has a pool with some ripples from a drop of water (rain?). I think that covers the prompt. Caribou's Dan Snaith is from Dundas Ontario, a suburb of Hamilton. Suddenly is an excellent entry into Caribou's discography. The electronic production is characteristic Caribou, but the hooks are everywhere here and Snaith completely sheds the hesitancy to fully use his vocals, which is featured on every track. Suddenly is peak form Caribou in my opinion, the logical evolution from the albums Our Love and Swim, which preceded it. 🍁

Recorded during a torrential downpour at Bonnaroo.

“I’ll never forget it” reflects Jim James “We’re playing & the sky just rips open & rain starts pouring down. People are losing their minds because they’re so happy to be getting soaked. We are playing on stage with no shoes on, and the whole stage is covered in water, and everybody is petrified that we are going to get electrocuted, but it was such a transcendent moment that we just didn’t even care.”

Suso Sáiz -  Rainworks

Experimental cloud structure on the cover, and the closing track "A Rainy Afternoon." Rain sounds and swaths of thunder can be heard across this ambient/electroacoustic 2xLP.

Day 29 – We are in Atlanta to see Pearl Jam! Spin any artist that you have traveled for or would love to travel to see. Can be another city, state or country

Beck - Sea Change

I live in a relatively small area, so pretty much any concert involves a short trip (San Francisco and Oakland are two hours away, and if I'm really lucky they go to Santa Cruz 45 minutes away). Last summer the whole family headed up to Berkeley to see Beck do one of his orchestral shows and we had a great time. The first half was a lot of sad Beck, like this album, then ended with a few of the upbeat hits.

The Beach Boys - Love You (1977)
IMG_7512.jpeg
I’ve said it more than a few times as good as The Beach Boys albums were in the 1960s their 1970s output is often overlooked. Loves You was the last Beach Boys albums that was really good it’s much lighter and looser than a lot of their music but also still feels contemporary to its time that would be lost with the albums that followed.
