Pre-Order Thread

There has been so many times I wanted to order a album which was only $20 or $25 which is very reasonable but then they charge $10 + for shipping and then I decided it's not worth buying it anymore. I wish places would charge no more than $5 for shipping.

It’s a genuine cost to them. The bigger they are as a label/store the less it costs them through volume, or like Amazon and the like their own delivery services that use exploitative employment methods. Should a smaller store or label really have to lose money on shipping so that you get a luxury item cheaper?

No but they also don't need to charge $10 + for shipping either.

Media mail is about $6/7 mailers aren't $3. If they know they can get away with charging more they will. An extra $2 an order adds up quick for profit
Good mailers will run you about $1.60 per, then factor in the “handling” part of shipping and handling. Meaning whoever is packing your order is on the clock. $6 is then somewhat reasonable. If they’re using pirate ship it would be cheaper though

This assumes that everything is being sent using the same media mail service by every business. There are legitimate business reasons for having different shipping methods and different shipping companies. Shouting at the smaller businesses to drop that or take losses isn’t the right target. It is totally different if it’s a major or a large warehouse style operation.

More often than not, ten dollar shipping equates media mail. What’s funny is often times the pricier options seem to be at a bit of a loss.

It’s also worth pointing out in this scenario that us Americans are used to an extraordinarily low shipping cost and that what we find outrageous would be reasonable to others.

Yes. €7 is about standard within Ireland but let’s be honest if it’s within Ireland it’s 99% likely I’d be buying it in a local store anyway and given the physical size of the country it’s hard to quantify that in American terms, we’re way smaller even than the state you’re in.

Across Europe, which particularly in the customs union is a fairer comparison, we are starting at €10 and, leaving Amazon prime out of it, it’s very likely higher unless it’s a warehouse operation like jpc.
