Definitive Audiophile pressings

I don’t know how long it will take for MoFi or VMP new plants to earn a quality reputation, I hope both do wonderful work; that being said the true winners should be the other audiophile plants (QRP, RTI, Pallas) that should be able to not be so swamped and hopefully refocus on their QC making more quality records all around. At least that is my hope.

Well QRP and RTI both lost the heads of their plants to VMP and MoFi respectively. So it’ll be interesting to see how they fair without those guys. People have complained about RTI quite a lot lately

Unfortunately I’d say it’ll make little difference. Mofi are not an enormous volume label and VMP are very GZ orientated for their RoTMs. What would free up those plants is a major or two setting up a big operation.

RTI is already pretty caught up from backlogs. Curious to see if MoFi does their plating and one steps in-house or if they will keep those at RTI. If the one steps go in-house that will free up some space too at RTI. also wonder if MoFi will press other records for other labels. VMP is only gonna press their own stuff for now starting with the Classics track I believe.

Also QRP pretty much only presses their own series now…AP, UHQR, AS Verve, Atl 75 and soon Bluesville.

It remains that industry is woefully under capacity to meet demand.

I don’t imagine that fuck chad pressings removed all other work from the chain for any reason other than capacity, he doesn’t strike me as a guy that would turn down $s

Sort of…KG recently said most plants (at least the ones he works with) are caught up with orders now and there’s no longer a huge wait like there used to be. Stoughton no longer has much of a wait either. If the goal is to plate and press a record in a few weeks then sure—it’s under capacity. But stuff seems largely more under control than it was before in terms of schedules.

It would be great if a major label stepped up and built a plant/manufactured records. But I wouldn’t hold my breath about the quality based on how many big labels are treating vinyl releases in terms of phoning it in

Oh yeah we’re over the pandemic backlogs but that was only ever a very particular issue that was obsfucating wider ones. We’re not over a major release or RSD gumming up the whole system for months and we’re definitely not over smaller indie labels and artists actually having any certainty over how and when they can get anything pressed because of the majors.

Taylor needs to open her own vinyl pressing plant.
