The Blue Note Thread

People go nuts over the MMJ. I guess I don't get it.
So many other ways to blow your cash in this hobby when a BNC gets you 90-95%+ of the way there.
I mean it's the same KG either way. I'm not sure I can hear the difference anyway.
There is definitely a hype around them isnt there? I haven't got any and don't really intend to, but would be interested in listening to one to see if they live up to it.

I don't have any either. I wasn't buying when they were released.
Take Empyrean Isles BNC as an example. It's sounds amazing and was under $25.

They made some different mastering choices on them vs the BNCs. I got a good deal on the MMJ45 of Cool Struttin and it sounds quite a bit better than the BNC. How much better vs price is obviously subjective. I paid $50 for the MMJ45 and think it was worth it.

This hobby isn’t fiscally responsible no matter how you slice it haha.

Yeah 45s always sound different.

Even the 33s sound great. I have quite a few of those. Overall nicer package. Would I spend $100+ on them? Probably not. But they are definitely nicer than the BNCs.

If you’re spending 10k on 110 records, you probably aren’t caring much about the price difference.

Caught the Blue Note Quintet at Mississippi Studios last night. Fantastic show, with audio from past Blue Note legends layered beneath the music at the beginning and end of each track.

From L to R: Gerald Clayton, Joel Ross, Matt Brewer, Immanuel Wilkins, Kendrick Scott

I have a couple dozen titles and they really are incredible, but I paid release price or less - but given the delta now, the juice probably isn't worth the squeeze, I also remember them being in the bins at a lot of local LA stores 8-10 years ago,

...I also wish they weren't gatefolds, but c'est la vie....we really are spoiled at the moment, when I was younger none of this was available and I still couldn't afford originals..liberty's ok, but they still weren't easy to find in the wild...

This latest Lee Morgan BNC....what a trip. Love this record.

Good feedback.
I need to grab it. Plus some other new BNCs are getting great feedback this month.

I did pick up Bass On Top and Chant repress TPs.
Both are really excellent sounding. Bass On Top is very cool with the Chambers bass lead.

So much to buy these days....
