Vinyl Me Please Classics

They just cost more money
More money than what? More than they used to be? I know they don't cost more money than spending 3 months on a membership you don't necessarily want.

He just posted that he'd been unsubscribed for awhile and the reason he's returning now is for this one specific album, so he's signing up for a 3 month. I felt like it was worth asking why he'd go that route, both because I was curious if he was aware they'd brought them back and also because I didn't know if they were gone again.

I should clarify. I am definitely coming back for this record, however I am also open to rolling the dice on a couple more months, which is why I am going to do three. Best case scenario, either the classics or other tracks have records I really want for August and September and I snag those. Worst case, the selections for the next couple months sucks and I hit up Swaptions for some records of theirs I haven't picked up yet, like Experience Unlimited and Knock On Wood. I'm good with either outcome.

That's kind of what I got from your response. Plus, although I thought the option to swap for credit seemed kind of bogus at first, it's actually a decent option in certain situations. It's better than swapping for a record that's in the store for less than what your monthly fee is, especially if the odds are high that you're going to purchase an exclusive at some point that you can apply them toward

Does anyone know if you’re able to take the credit if you don’t like this month’s swaps, but say next month you like a swap option better or an add on track, can you use the original swap credit for an add on track in a future month?

I think you would have to get CS to change the credits to account credits or something like that. There's a different type of credit that automatically goes towards paying for your subscriptions rather than being used in store to buy things.

They can change them back and forth, so yeah I think that would work with their help.

Jealous! Have fun!

Thanks! Didn't end up going canoeing, and the fishing was weak (only caught a couple Grayling). Still, it's always fun to be out and off grid and going on hikes where you don't come across any other humans. IMG_4841.JPG

Sooo...McCoy Tyner - Sahara? I'll sign back up for that. When's the announce date?

Thursday

Holy EFF, this is one hell of a pick. Fantastic. I absolutely cannot wait to hear a AAA pressing of this. The soundstage and dynamics on just the crappy Spotify version are outstanding. I'm just gonna say right now, if they press this with the same AAA quality the classics have all been getting recently, this might be one of, if not the best sounding classics record ever in terms of fidelity, dynamics and soundstage.

I've a few vmp jazz albums such as the ones from Davis/Coltrane, Donald Byrd, Miles, Art Blakey, Johnny Griffin, and really like them all. Also have most of the jazz 'classics' on vinyl. Unfortunately I'm just not feeling the same enthusiasm yet for the McCoy Tyner one, is it just me feeling this way?

It’s very different that all of those other releases they have done (which are also awesome). I personally really like Sahara but absolutely see why people wouldn’t like it.

Damn, guess I am getting back in the VMP (cess)pool. The album sounds great. And @VinylGuy if you think you want to expand your jazz collection and horizons, I would pick this up. I got the Archie Shepp when Classics started but it took me a good year to really understand it by listening to a lot more jazz albums, now it is a favourite of mine.

I think most of the jazz I listen to is from around `58 to '64....I'm still enjoying learning about that era, but maybe it's time to also listen to more from the late '60s and '70s. Any recommendations welcome!

A lot of this is fusion and some people strongly dislike that for some reason, but that is some of the best of the era in my opinion. I recommend:

Miles Davis - In A Silent Way, Bitches Brew, Jack Johnson
Pharoah Sanders - Karma
Freddie Hubbard - Straight Life, Red Clay
Herbie Hancock - Sextant, Head Hunters
Roland Kirk - The Inflated Tear
Mingus - Let My Children Hear Music
Ornette Coleman - Science Fiction

Lots more but those are some favorites of mine.

Edit - Just noticed your cutoff was '64. If for some reason you haven't checked out Coltrane - A Love Supreme, of course that is highly recommended. I actually have kind of a big Coltrane blind spot after that one that I need to correct, I've heard the later ones are great too.
