Run DMC was my introduction to rap, which is probably true to most white guys from Sweden who grew up in the 80s. I don't think it was "Walk This Way" for me though, as I think I'd heard "It's Like That" or "King of Rock" before that one on a mix tape from one of my friends' cool big brother...
First a quick recap: Tori Amos was great! I actually think I've only heard "Crucify" from this before, but the whole album was really great. I have listened a lot more to "Under the Pink" through the years,, which is also brilliant. ZZ Top is ZZ Top. Really. Silly and dumb but also groovy and...
Elastica is one of those bands that I dug the hell out of when this came out, and then forgot for a while, before the CD found it's way to my car where the cover was rattling around on the floor for many years so it was my go-to drive-music. So everytime I hear the riff to "Line up" I picture...
Kinda the same sentiment as Strangeways for me: The worst of the four initial Pixies albums, but still great though. Dig for Fire could be my favorite Pixies song.
Bran van 3000 was pretty great, right? I remember listening to Drinking in LA on repeat (and really enjying that album too). And whatever happened to Jon Spencer? Haven’t heard anything from him in decades. “Wail” ruled!
I actually own this on CD.
Don’t remember how, when or why I picked it up, but I have listened to it, more than once I think. I remember thinking Scooby Snacks was kinda catchy. I don’t know if I dare to listen to it today though after this tirade. 😂
I love Saint Etienne. They were on the soundtrack to every road trip I had in the early/mid-90s, and everytime I hear the intro to "Nothing Can Stop Us" I'm there again: In the car on the road to Roskilde festival in 1994 with whole life in front of me, hair in the wind and gazing at the sun...I...
I have this on CD, but under a different name and cover! Albini was ahead of the curve here for sure, as this is what most industrial rock bands in the 90s aimed for. This is menacing stuff.
I agree, but I don’t think for a minute that he is in on the joke here. Yes, he has wry, british wit about it, but I think he definitely IS as pretentious as his lyrics. (My empirics here is basically every interview I’ve read with him.) I love his lyrics too, but I just don’t seem to connect...
There was a time when I idolized the crap out of Morrissey, and this was his best soloalbum in my book. Today I actually don't get what I saw in this. I don't know. It's a great album, but just not something I want to listen to these days. And it's not really about him being a right wing...
