What's Spinning

The death of a child is a hell of a thing.

Yeah, I think I’d rather have Gold and this particular release is just weird. Makes me wonder what their plan is. I almost wonder if they had planned to go with Gold but then the RSD tape did really well and made them think they should cash in on this. I think I’ve figured out the deluxe reissues though. I bet we see Sign o’ the Times next and then Diamonds & Pearls. There’s a part of me that hopes for a separate release of Truth and Kamasutra, but there’s also a part of me that just wants them tacked on to Crystal Ball.

If they were in a box so you got the separate covers maybe. Love The Truth. Also really want the One Nite Alone solo piano and voice. A whole Camille disc with Sign would be nice

Nope this doesn’t even dent the gap, it’s just my third different version of Blood on the Tracks...

I listened to Saved today. By choice. I like his gospel albums. Note I say gospel rather than Christian or religious. I never thought I would ever utter the words ‘Alexa, play When He Returns’ but there we go. Slow Train especially is a genuinely good album

Yeah slow train is a genuinely good album. It’s still the leanest period of his career though!

I think I’ve read somewhere that there’s some kind of copyright dispute surrounding “The Most Beautiful Girl in the World” that’s been dragging on since the mid-90s that’s keeping that song from being re-released. So that could be why The Gold Experience hasn’t been reissued on CD & vinyl yet.

His leanest period was after and is about to be reissued I see. Down In he Groove and Under A Red Sky are getting reissued

Oh yeah the 1-2 of Empire Burlesque and Knocked out Loaded...

I hadn’t realised that those two had gone out of print to be honest. I like Under The Red Sky, it’s fhe beginning of the ship turning that eventually led to the trio of Time Out Of Mind, Love & Theft and Modern Times. Those three stand up against all his greatest work for me.

Yes agree. Those three are classics. In fairness even his worst albums have decent songs, Brownsville Girl, Silvio, Wigwam

Doesn’t make sense now. The estate has been working pretty amicably with Warner.

I was thinking the same thing about Under The Red Sky.

The dispute actually comes from two Italian composers who alleged that Prince plagiarized a song of theirs from 1983, “Takin’ Me to Paradise”. Under the latest ruling in Italian court, Prince’s estate is barred from distributing the song in Italy. I don’t really know how that would explain its absence from Spotify/iTunes/anywhere else in all other parts of the world, but that’s the best info I was able to find on it (which I got from this Billboard article).

Huh, interesting.
