Bandbox: an uncompensated review of an interesting new club

they seem to be in the unfortunate position of needing to announce stuff to have cashflow but then those records are always late, probably because they press in low numbers. it's a vicious cycle.

Something isn't adding up though. If their cashflow is that bad, why would major labels be allowing them to press these records?

The lissie album is the only they have announced that I would have been remotely interested in from bandbox. I initially only ordered it quickly because of fomo but I glad it was delayed because then I decided to give the album a listen and I realized I didn't like it as much as I thought I would. I don't see any good reason to be a bandbox member right now. The only vinyl subscription I'd be interested in joining not that I have any plans to do so would be magnolia records as even if I'm not interested in their monthly album they have a good selection of things that you can swap for instead.

I just think they are using presale money for records and bandbux to fund whatever the next release is. If they stop announcing albums to try to play catch up, then they won't have capital to press whatever they wanna release next. Labels don't care or know about a reissue company's cashflow. If they get paid, they are fine.

Obviously total conjecture. But the amount of sales they have on records/giftcards/bandbux and the 6+ month delays on every single release screams cashflow issues to me.

Still no Bob or Judas… Bob is waiting on the zine. I told them to ship it when they had it ready to go.

Thanks for the writeup @hayema7 !

Has anyone gotten their Gwar yet? I had that as a single-album order but no shipping. I have a Luna bundle with Kurt Vile so not expecting to see that for a while still.

It's been commented on plenty by others, but seeing "zine delay" be the cause of so many missed deadlines is wild, given that ostensibly they sell records first, not magazines...
I think it's wild too bc I'm pretty sure I could walk into Staples with a PDF and get it printed immediately. Paper printing should not take this long...

I've got one update for you that probably not too many people here would care about (though if you have kids, you should take note): Okee Dokee Brothers has shipped. I received my copy (which I'll be getting from my kids for Christmas) a few days ago.

It was my first Bandbox order. I took advantage of the Bandbucks Black Friday deal. I'm not so sure it was the best idea given all these delays. And after reading this thread, I've learned I shouldn't buy anything until there's another big sale, so for the moment I'm sitting on a bunch of Bandbucks.
