The Good Ol' Grateful Thread

My first post here. Was on the VMP forums and finally made my way over here.

Love the Dead. I don’t own a lot of live shows on vinyl, tons of studio stuff but not live albums. When it comes to live Dead I feel it’s best to listen on CDs and I own countless shows on CDs. I do own a couple prized Dead live gems on vinyl though including Sunshine Daydream (Veneta) and an original German only pressing of One From The Vault. Those are two I will never part with.

Big shipment came today

Yeah I don’t like that Aoxomoxoa is a picture disc. In fact, I tried to cancel the order but wasn’t able to. Oh well. I do have the picture disc of Anthem Of The Sun and it’s okay. But I’d still much rather have a normal pressing.

Finally finished going through the abridged 73-74 Pacific NW box set driving back and forth from work. Favorite parts for me:
- Good Sunflower Rider which I'm always a sucker for
- One of my favorite Bird Songs
- A Truckin > Jam > Not Fade Away > Goin Down the Road Feeling Bad > One More Saturday Night sequence that absolutely rips
- While one of my favorite songs, I find that Sugar Magnolia live is kind of inconsistent in my listening experience. Fortunately this set had a really good one that I hadn't heard before which made me happy.

While I love the spacey jazz side of 73-74 when it clicks, sometimes they can get be a little aimless without the pieces ever coming together. This box set included some of those sections for me which can interrupt momentum. All in all, not one of my favorite box sets of theirs I've purchased but that's some stiff competition. Will definitely come back for my favorite parts.

Only 2 Dead Vinyls I have are Shakedown Street which I found at an Estate Sale, and What a long strange Trip which I found at Goodwill. I honestly should be really into the Dead but the lack of ever seeing used vinyl in the wild kind of hampers me from listening to their albums. I’m going to throw on Shakedown Street right now...

I re-listened to Dave's 30 yesterday at work and my god if that isn't one of the best sounding Dead shows I've ever heard. Amazing set, too

It's tragic how Dave's 31 attempts to follow that up with the circus piano sound and cassette master (don't shoot me)
