Planning a some Rega P2 mods - am I being stupid?

I just did the Groovetracer Subplatter and Delrin Platter tonight. All I can say is:

HOLY FUCKING SHIT.

This is the game changer of all game changers. The background of every record is dead silent. The sound stage is like you are there.

If these are available for your table, I would do them immediately. They are worth the price.

Well...yeah. Major. On a Rega, swapping the subplatter for the Groovetracer (I have the Isokinetic, same deal) and putting a solid acrylic platter on top is a big upgrade.

Now you can put some LED's under the platter and totally geek out.

MASSIVE bang for the buck, believe it or not - replacing the bearing sleeve and the bearing. Huge improvement in quietness, accuracy and stability. Particularly if using the Rega outboard motor. For hardly anything, the TangoSpinner replacement pulley with double belts is also another big upgrade.

I disagree that upgrading a Rega is not worthwhile, or that it is more effective to simply sell and buy a more expensive table. The quality of parts available for an upgrade path is much higher than Rega puts in even the P9. The Rega platform is essentially the same all the way from bottom to top of the line, so any Rega is very easy to upgrade over time.

Besides, tweaking a turntable is the most fun you can have with your clothes on.
