The Official Needles and Grooves 1001 Album Generator Project

I still have a memory of seeing Halloween H20 in the theater, and someone screaming "NOT LL, NOo!" Loud as hell when he got shot.
The first movie I remember him acting in was that spectacular Robin Williams turd, Toys. I don’t know if I can think of a film that was as bad tonally and plot wise while also being very visually stunning. It’s a weird mess but LL doing a bunch of cool camouflage was pretty entertaining.

Truly an all-time classic when it comes to hip-hop beef!

The song is notable for starting the LL Cool J vs. Canibus feud, LL took offense to the lines, "L, is that a mic on your arm? Let me borrow that", which referenced his tattoo of a microphone on his arm – and which Canibus claimed was his own way of showing the rap veteran respect – and wrote an indirect diss to Canibus:

"The symbol on my arm is off limits to challengers / You hold the rusty sword, I swing the Excalibur"

And also:

"Now let's get back to this mic on my arm / If it ever left my side, it'll transform into a time bomb / You don't wanna borrow that, you wanna idolize / And you don't wanna make me mad, OFFENSIVE LANGUAGE, you wanna socialize."

Before the song was released, LL Cool J asked Canibus to change his lines. Canibus claims that LL Cool J vowed to modify his own lines as well, but the latter denied this and pointed out that nobody would know who he was talking about if only Canibus's line was changed.
In addition, despite appearing on the song, Canibus was omitted from the original music video for the song due to the feud, but was later included in the music video for the remix version.

I definitely saw it growing up, but don't remember a single thing about it.

Hmm. I didn't think any of it was weird.
Weird in the sense that it sounds dated which ultimately is why I called them weird. Mama I Said Knock You Out, Round the Way Girl, Boomim' System could come out today. Eat Em Up L Chill, Milky Cereal, 6 Minutes of Pleasure sound like they are older than they actually are.

YOURE A MESS. It's a fucking kids movie. Most of them are a mess if you start to think about them critically (INCLUDING FUCKING STAR WARS)
Is it a kids movie though?
I just googled Toys reviews. I feel like Roger Ebert kinda nails it…

It is a kid's movie. Look there are all kinds of problems with it. #1 being that they made a kids movie that is 2 hours long and rated PG13. It's possible it was meant to be some Gilliamesque satire of kid's movies, but we all know it isn't that deep. I think Levinson wanted to make a kid's movie and as it gestated over 12 years it became some kind of misguided statement on violence and toys. It's still a kids movie, just one that tries to have a metaconcept.

I guess, it was either an ill conceived kids movie or a ill conceived not-kids (I feel like calling it an “adult” film adds the wrong connotations) movie which was my point. It doesn’t know what it is and as such it’s tone is weird and off.

It’s visually stunning though.

Have you caught him on NCSILA?

L is still killing it on the acting tip. It’s not In The House but the man is a multifaceted talent.

That’s a lot of letters. Is it another US military police or FBI offshoot show that’s the same as the rest of them and where ultimately they go to all that effort to just shoot some fucked up person rather than attempt to arrest and try them?

I was kinda poking fun but really it’s not too far off. I think the show is called Navy NCIS: Los Angeles. TBH, I don’t think I’ve ever seen an episode. It’s the type of police procedural that grandparents watch before the evening news.

Yeah I used to have a flatmate who’d watch every single shit US show involving law enforcement. I hated them all but the nadir is Crominal Minds. Torture porn and the FBI agents we’re supposed to empathise with are a bunch of fucking kill happy sociopaths that gun down every motherfucking suspect.
