Definitive Audiophile pressings

Quick Japanese pressings update. I picked up Tattoo You and Nighthawks At The Diner first presses a few weeks ago. Finally getting around to catching-up on my backlog. Anyway, both are excellent pressings. I only have current reissues to compare to but these are both in a different league.

Excitement for the MoFi cut (eventually? Lol) of this lead me to spin the MOV for the first time in a couple years. Man, this cut is absolutely fabulous! Killing low end, totally captures the groove and movement these tunes have. Highly recommend, and as I recall their cut of the self titled is equally great.

These were recommended to me. Had never heard of this label before but man….these pressings sound fantastic.

I had a listen to both yesterday Mike and the Mofi sounds better, especially drums/cymbals, they sound quite veiled on Jap pressing, it sounded a bit lifeless compared to the Mofi for me. You really hear the stick sound and the attack ! of the drum sound on the mofi, but not on my Jap copy . I was quite surprised in the difference, but it was very noticeable . But someone on SHF says the Mofi is shit compared to an early US , so what do I know ??

I love that recent Japanese reissue of it too

I sold the Mofi Nefertiti when I bought the Japanese pressing. I agree, the Mofi sounds better, but I’m happier overall bc I found I play the 33 more, and it sounds damn good even if not at Mofi level. I had the same experience with Impex 45rpm Blow Up v the Craftman 33. The Impex is also incredible, but I pick up the Craftman 33 more and sold the Impex. This is a change for me. The 45rpm didn’t have that impact before but something changed for me.

Yeah, the 33 is certainly a selling point and the Japanese pressing sounds good, I have had a few similar experiences where I had what I thought sounded like a really good album and then I had a chance to hear an original pressing and the difference was quite stark, there just seems to be more presence and attack and “space “ in a lot of country of origin pressings compared with other countries or even later pressings/mastering. Not always of course, but I guess we are often happy with a pressing that sounds very good, if that’s the Best we’ve heard. Sorry going a little off tangent here, but it’s a funny old thing isn’t it. . .

I’ll have to listen to them back to back since I have both. But like @Portland Sheriff said, I find myself going for 33 over 45 in many cases now.

Yeah, be interested if your findings are similar or not, like I said, 33 is a big advantage, but sonically a big difference too, depends how active you like to be while listening to tunes. 😂

Anyone got an opinion on best pressing of The Byrds - Sweetheart of the Rodeo?
I got the multi disc deluxe one they did for RSD some years back cause I absolutely love that record. Cut and pressed at MPO, sounds very good as per usual for them! You can sometimes sacrifice in the mastering on deluxe treatment stuff, but this one's a winner, and can be had for a reasonable price as well.

Thanks! Yeah, those are the two I've got on my wantlist. Have a hard time finding this one in person, no matter the press. Appreciate the input!

I know the remasters from a few years back were largely awful, but does anyone have experience with this 2022 repress of Tom Waits - Closing Time?

This seems to be the same master from Pete Lyman at Infrasonic from 2018 with lacquer cut by David Cheppa / Better Quality Sound who does a lot of Epitaph / Anti-‘s vinyl. Presuming cut from the 192 digital?

Anyway… anybody have one?
