Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

I thought there was vat or something now. Maybe they are just fleecing @Joe Mac and @Mather

So the EU changed its rules and all that.
We’d either have to pay VAT at source like they’ve started or they’d have to declare it and we’d pay VAT plus handling on arrival. The previous discretionary amount of €22 has gone and it’s charged to from €0 now. The EU has got extremely paranoid about its markets since Brexit and all the providers are now really strict about charging it. Nothing gets through even with good old An Post. It actually works out cheaper then for VMP to charge VAT at source than the postal provider to charge VAT plus handling charges on arrival. Works out as just over €60 a record on a 3 month sub.

Britain actually changed its rules to mirror the EU ones at the same time but Royal Mail is an absolute shambles at the moment and can’t even properly send out international mail, never mind check and declare customs on incoming mail. Also Britain is being more lax in its implementation of those rules general. So VMP probably haven’t bothered implementing the changes to register and charge for UK VAT.

I love Isbell, but am I the only one who's starting to get Springsteen vibes from him?
Both the good (Amazing Songwriter, killer band) and the not so good (a little self-righteous, acts like a "man of the people" while charging his fans an awful lot).

I think those things are sometimes interrelated at least from a songwriting standpoint. Especially given the types of songs he writes.

Tickets for virtually any known act, especially in a bigger venue, are just bonkers right now.

Back to this discussion. At least the Portland date is $60 and it's all GA. I'd rather pay more for a theater but bigger venue for him and a fair price in my opinion.

Oh man. First store drop I've wanted in forever. I really shit the bed not ordering this off Bandcamp when it was released. As @Selaws mentioned the increasingly minimal copies on thr 'cogs are WAY pricey.

So, I actually think that this "up to 8 free" is one of VMP's biggest grifts ever and I'll explain myself.

Even a day after they announced this, the number of "Join With This Album" choices beyond the last couple of months was already starting to thin out; I'm guessing when they email ....everyone at the same time....a coupon for their free records, after two weeks of pumping this promotion, that everyone will find the same usual suspects that have been lingering in swaps for years to be their "free" albums.

And I put "free" in airquotes because they really aren't, are they? They are albums used to bring your invested cost per record down- so you would have to find up to 8 LP's you would want to pay $21 for normally, or up to $28 on the six month.

I would imagine they would drag this out until summer when they have enough new ROTMs to fill the coffers again for people renewing/signing up.

But to my jaded, cynical eyes this looks like someone cooked up a way to both look apologetic for the price bump and clear out dead af inventory in one subscription bump scheme.
