Definitive Audiophile pressings

Not one to own multiple copies but making an exception for this one. Right side is the Sundazed kpg. I hear there's a QRP Sundazed but received the United pressing which is quiet, but dish warped. Record Pi flattner arrived today as well, kpg is first up. As much I despise 45s, the Mofi is truly great, regret trading that in. Picked up a new amp a couple of days ago, got a great deal on it and for the price, very happy with what I'm hearing.

I have the DCC and quite like it but don’t know the album intimately and don’t have anything to compare to!

Hmm strange! Mine was from RI I think and was the only one credited on discogs as cut by KG. But now I see the RTI one has the KG runouts in discogs but just doesn’t come up if you search his name.

I still wouldn’t trust buying on discogs that this is the version I’d get. Same UPC as others. Suppose you could ask the sealed ones if they have the RTI hype but looks like $75 ish is cheapest at the moment
strange indeed! Wanted to save myself the headache, and I definitely overpaid, but got the kpg.

Wanted to collect DCC pressings of my favorite albums, and this one is nice, but I think I'm hearing a bit too much reverb. Mofi did a great job at cleaning up Marty's and Grace's vocals. KPG Is nice too, but a bit lacking in bass, surprisingly.

The Sundazed might be
It sounds fantastic in my opinion :)
pretty sure this is the one I have although weirdly haven’t entered it into discogs

The Sundazed Airplane is stereo and cut from digital. The DCC is stereo as well, but Hoffmanized with his trademark shaved top end, limited bottom. Whether Hoff got the true master, a tape copy or a digital file is always unknown. The MOFI is regrettably 45rpm, absolutely unnecessary for this record, and is mono (best) and sounds absolutely amazing.

If we’re dreamin’ why not a nice audiophile 2x45 AAA reissue that doesn’t cost $150 bucks?

Fuck Chad

Fair enough, I just think with the repertoire AP has of using old plates perhaps its possible. But I couldn't agree more. Jeff Buckley would be deserving of the UHQR treatment though for what that's worth, much more than Steely Dan :ROFLMAO:

I will choose to look past the Steely Dan slander and agree with the overall sentiment. It’s an album that deserves the audiophile treatment.

My childhood buddy has had two phases of musical obsession: Grateful Dead and bluegrass (he plays banjo and went balls deep into some ol' J.D. Crowe).

Growing up he kind of appreciated things like Hendrix, Zep, etc. But, seriously, all he wanted to do was listen to Dead (and mostly live shows - he currently tapes at Dark Star Orchestra shows).

So, my surprise when he texts me this morning:

"Do you like Steely Dan?" "I've been getting into them"

I was totally surprised.

And if anyone was wondering, this was my reply:

"Ugh...exdeed I do not. Incredible musicians, amazingly recorded albums. Boring ass music. Donald Fagens solo album The Nightfly [I figured I'd give him an avenue to explore] is an audiophiles wet dream"

The only negative with the STERLING I have is that it's pressed really hot. Seems a bit harsh at times compared to the CB. The CB is smooth with softer highs but it's definitely less dynamic and detailed. Is the original japanese using the sterling plates?
I picked up the OG pressing off this you guys have been discussing. It’s definitely hot cut. It explodes out of the speakers. Need to compare to CB cut.

Ugh that stinks!

You think it beats the CB or US OG? Side a at least…
I wouldn't say it beats the CB, but it's as good to my ears. The bass has a little more punch on this one to me, but the soundstage seems slightly wider on the CB. I haven't heard the US OG to compare.
