The Official Needles and Grooves 1001 Album Generator Project

Not for nothing, I probably would have given it a 1 after my first listen.
It's an interesting point - often I find myself liking stuff only because I've become familiar with it. Do I really like it, or have I just become used to it? I have a system of listening to stuff on Spotify to make sure I want to buy the vinyl and some albums get like 10 spins - often, by that stage, I am really used to the album and in the past I'd have bought it. They're often the purchases I like the least so I'm learning that if I'm on the fence about an album to let it go.

Exodus is so much more my jam. I know it's a cliché to have Bob as your favourite reggae artist but I just adore his music. This is clearly one of his very best, and so many tunes on here that I've spun at parties over the year (Jamming was our university unofficial theme tune for a while). I prefer his live stuff over the studio albums, but this is still pretty close to perfect. 4.5 stars

Bob Marley & the Wailers - Exodus

Allmusic review:

A reggae album.
2/5

EDIT: We had this joke in France : do you guys know what a rastaman says when his weed is not altering his mind anymore? "Hey what is this shitty music!"
EDIT 2: yeah, not only do we have great singers, we have great jokes too.

Wire - Pink Flag

I couldn't listen to this loud enough in my office yesterday, so didn't get to finish my listen until last night when I was reading with my headphones on. It's a much better immersive experience than background music. A couple songs off this have come up on playlists and streams I've listened to over the years but never really stood out as anything special. Taking it on in one full go and it holds up much better. I don't think it'll enter my rotation when I'm feeling the punk worm in my brain, but I'll probably listen to it again today. 3/5 for now, might trend up on another listen.

Wire - Pink Flag

Stoked to finally check this one out on my drive into work this morning. I've heard of the band forever, and have definitely seen the cover of this particular album often enough that it's stuck with me.

This is great driving music!

I absolutely loved this. I generally dig a lot of punk and have been a lot more hit and miss with post-punk, but this one really tickles me in great ways! I love how much is going on throughout the songs and album, but how cohesive it remains. I can see how some may find the vocals a bit abrasive but they work for me. The rhythm section slays throughout and there are some really fun harmonies. On initial listen I generally dig the lyrical content as well.

4/5 for me. I look forward to spending more time with this one

Mudhoney - Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge

Finally an album that I don't think I know at all.

Yesterday's was The Rolling Stones "Aftermath." I've always found the Stones kind of boring (sacrilege, I know.) Jagger doesn't have the type of voice I like in a non-melodic style, and it all seems so "male" centered that it puts me off. They, like U2, are the definition (for me) of a "singles" band.

Unfortunately, reggae in general is not really my thing. I thought this was fine, I definitely know why people like it and that it's a classic, but I'm not the right audience for it. I'd give it a 3 but that's 100% because of me and not really because there's anything wrong with the music.

I like stepping out of my comfort zone sometimes though because I've been surprised before in genres I didn't think I would like.
