Everything Video Games!

Reviews for the new Pokemon are mostly positive with the biggest criticisms being that it runs and looks like shit. Watching the trailer I was unsure why they were comfortable showing gameplay running at that frame rate. Kind of wishing gamefreak would give up the mantle so we can get something with effort behind it.

Arceus was good!
It sounds like people liked it, but I got the impression it was more about catching/collecting than developing a team and battling? It just struck me as a different gameplay loop than I wanted.

To be real honest my misgiving with most Pokémon titles of the last decade-plus has been the way they stray from or overcomplicate a structure that I think is best kept simple and direct. I get that I’m an outlier, but a top-down 2d Pokémon game with contemporary tech and design would make me so happy.

This is a pretty accurate assessment, I'd say.

S/S was fine, but there was so much that disappointed me about Arceus. My SO is a huge Pokemon fan and disliked Arceus possibly more than me. I'm out for this new gen and sounds like they may be too.

It bums me out how they seemingly keep taking 1 step foward and 2 steps back.

Mega evolutions were cool and interesting, but entirely abandoned after 1 game and the latest two mainline games have had giant battles and crytallization(?) Battles? Why go through the effort of adding a gimmic every time? Heartgold/soulsilver and even O-Ruby/A-Sapphire were huge remakes with tons of content (on the DS and 3DS) whereas the Diamond and Pearl remakes for Switch(!) Were 1:1 with nothing added. Black/White had a mature and interesting story and everything since then has been on the decline. Scarlet/Violet animations somehow look worse than the 3DS and occasionally even the gamecube games.

This is the biggest IP on Earth, idk what the fuck they're doing. I mean it's going to print money either way, SV have the biggest preorder #s in the series' history, just wondering if they'll ever have to catch on.

OG Animal Crossing themed Switch dock died this weekend. Was worried it was the console but a 3rd party dock delivered overnight from Amazon proved otherwise. Pretty shitty for it to die so easily. We never undock or move the thing so it had no excuse for this.
That’s wild. Never had a dock issue before.

Grabbed Foribben West and Rift Apart for a total of $70 from Game Stop.

Really disappointed with the Switch sales. Was hoping Super Mario 3d Worlds or the new Kirby would be on sale somewhere.

Still really, really enjoying Cyber Punk and soaking it up. A little over 30 hours in now.

If you end up missing the Animal Crossing dock, Nintendo has some refurbished ones up for sale on their store.

Thing is, I feel like the 3rd party one is a far better design. I do like Nintendo's spring loaded collar at the usb-c connection but for the price it's a terrible overall design and now from my perspective, has quality concerns. I'd buy a replacement board and fix this one before I paid up for another (which I might do just to be able to move the system to another room easily). For the same price I can just have another better designed dock, though.
